Prof. mr. dr. Björn Hoops

Legal Advisor

As an associate professor of Private Law and Sustainability at the University of Groningen, Björn is daily involved in research on private and public law obstacles to the sustainability of buildings.

He was born in Northern Germany on January 21, 1988. He studied German and Dutch law in Bremen and Groningen. In 2013, he graduated with civil effect and received the GUF-100 prize (best law student in the academic year 2012-2013). He wrote his comparative law master’s thesis on the bankruptcy pauliana.

One of his theses was awarded the German-Dutch Lawyers Prize in 2014. In 2017, Björn obtained his PhD in expropriation cum laude. Since September 2020, Björn has been leading a group of lecturers for the innovative master’s course in Real Estate Law in the 21st Century. This course covers innovative technologies in the built environment, the sustainability of society, and the legal issues that arise in this context.

Olenz and Björn aim to promote sustainability by combining practical and theoretical knowledge. Björn has a wealth of expertise in property law and expropriation law, and we are very pleased that he has been advising our firm since January 2021.
